Hello-
Please see the attached Special Request for Proposals. I have also inserted
the text below, for those who have difficulties with attach files. Please
contact MBSF for any clarifications. We look forward to working with you on
your education and outreach ideas for informing the public and various user
groups about the network of MPAs along the Central Coast.
Special Request for Proposals
The Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation (MBSF) announces a request for
proposals for projects that enhance marine protected area (MPA) education
and outreach along the Central California Coast. This request is integral
to the MBSF's MPA Education and Outreach Initiative, which supports
California Department of Fish and Game's efforts to implement the central
coast MPA network (established in 2007 pursuant to the Marine Life
Protection Act (MLPA)).
Projects should:
* Focus on interpretation, education and outreach
* Be completed from April 1-July 31, 2010;
* Occur along Central Coast of California;
* Address one or both of the following:
1. Greater awareness/support for MPAs by general public & user
communities
2. Provide "best practices" for MLPA implementation processes statewide
Sample Products and Programs:
. School curriculum & programs that facilitate hands-on experiences
(e.g., guides, presentations, props, and field trips);
. Citizen monitoring programs;
. Outreach materials (e.g., print materials for visitor centers,
parks);
. Web development & online resources that foster support and
stewardship of MPAs;
. Programs engaging underserved audiences (elementary & middle
school and bilingual products);
. Seasonal staffing for MPA interpretation;
. MPA educational efforts that target specific user groups (e.g.
boaters, anglers, etc.);
. Efforts to engage local businesses and civic groups to support
their local MPA efforts;
. Development of a sustainable social networking model using best
available technology
All programs must contain metrics for evaluation of the proposed
activities. Exemplary programs should demonstrate exportability to other
forums. Augmentation of existing material to incorporate MPA messaging and
collaboration with other partners and stakeholders is encouraged. Technical
assistance may be provided by the MBSF and other partners.
Funding & Responsibilities:
Typical awards for projects will range from $1,000 to $5,000. Grantees must
implement proposed activities by April1, 2010. Final reports will be due
August 15, 2010.
